Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Ahmedabad

Welcome to your ‘Heritage of Ahmedabad tour! On arrival at the airport / railway station in Ahmedabad, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.
Later, proceed on a half day city tour of Ahmedabad, including a visit to Blind People’s Association, Gandhi Ashram and Akshardham. The Blind People’s Association (BPA) of Ahmedabad, has embarked on a project of setting up a museum in the dark.
Calling it “Vision in the Dark”, the museum aims primarily to sensitise those with sight about how those without sight manage their daily lives. It gives visitors experience of being blind.
The museum houses models of different gods, national and international leaders, temple, mosque, church and a village. The only thing is that it is pitch dark and the visitors are blinded to the visual. Gandhi Ashram, also called the Sabarmati Ashram was one of the residences of Mahatma Gandhi, who lived there for about twelve years along with his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. It was from his base here that Gandhi led the Dandi march also known as the Salt Satyagraha on 12th March 1930.
Dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar is one of the
largest and most prominent temples in the entire state of Gujarat. It is a grand monument where you will find a combination of almost all ancient art and architectural form which have almost vanished with time.
The rest of the evening is at leisure.
Overnight in Ahmedabad.

Day 2: Ahmedabad - Lothal - Ahmedabad (235 km / approx. 6 hours drive)

This morning, drive to Anand - the milk capital of India to visit the famous Amul Factory, where one can see machineries at work and how Amul products are processed and packed.
En route, visit the Lothal Harappan archaeological site, one of the most prominent cities of the ancient Indus valley civilization. The world's earliest known Lothal's dock, connected the city to an ancient course of the Sabarmati river on the trade route between Harappan cities in Sindh and the peninsula of Saurashtra when the surrounding Kutch desert of today was a part of the Arabian Sea. It was a vital and thriving trade center in ancient times, with its trade of beads, gems and valuable ornaments reaching the far corners of West Asia and Africa.
The rest of the day is at leisure or one can opt for the evening heritage walk of Ahmedabad.
Overnight in Ahmedabad.

Day 3: Ahmedabad - Patan and Modhera (135 km / approx. 4 hours drive)

Today, drive to Patan to visit the Rani ki Vav, a step well in Patan which is an excellent example of subterranean architecture in Gujarat and has steps that lead down to the water level. In addition to the straight staircase, it also has lateral staircases, along with very broad, stepped corridors.
Then, visit Sahastralinga Talav, an artificial tank which was built by Siddhraj Jaisingh. The tank is situated on the north-western part of Patan, on the banks of the Saraswati river. The architecture of this tank integrated the sense of water management and sanctity of water in Hindu religion.
Later, visit Hemachandracharya Gyan Mandir which contains thousands of rare ancient
manuscripts in Sanskrit and Prakrit. Hemachandracharya was a great scholar and
grammarian. He was also the first one to formulate the grammar of the Gujarati language.
Lastly, visit the Sun Temple at Modhera which is one of the few shrines that are dedicated to the Sun God. This ancient temple revives the reminiscences of the Sun Temple at Konark i Orissa. The surrounding area of Modhera was also known as Dharmaranya (forest of righteousness) and the place was blessed by Lord Rama.
